Mother and I at Ave Maria Grotto
At first glance you might think this picture was taken somewhere in Europe. The locale is actually northern Alabama. This picture was taken on the grounds of Ave Maria Grotto. A Benedictine monk built this garden of four acres. He was known as Brother Joseph Zoettl, and was still working on the miniatures (125 in all) when we first visited the site over a half century ago.
